Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum termed ‘Dead-Wood’ the anonymous disrespect for teachers; System reform possible only by taking teacher-son board
“dead-wood’ does an insult to the whole teaching community: Qayoom Wani
Srinagar: Notwithstanding the frequent frustrating news reports appearing day in and day out here for the so called preparation of dead-wood in the department of school education owing to it different reasons at different times, Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum expressed anguish over what it termed the anonymous disrespect of teachers, who have been the national builders till yesteryear. In a statement issued here, Chairman of the Forum and former trade union leader Abdul Qayoom Wani wowed that on one hand govt always have been virtually praising teachers when it engages them for other assignments ranging from elections to vaccination drives even on Traffic duty but on the other hand the same govt time and again for past few months have been mulling ( as per these news reports) for the preparation of deadwood. Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum believes that first and foremost the terms like “dead-wood’ do an insult to the whole fraternity of teaching community, wherein a teacher had have served for twenty or thirty years in education and then he is tagged the label of ‘dead-wood’. Wani said Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum strongly objects the use of such insulting terms for teachers, Wani said for non-performing employees, including teachers, there are service rules for disciplinary action, however keeping the privacy and the self-respect of any employee uphold and not to throw it into the public domain. How come only an elderly teacher could be a non-worker that is silly, if anybody has to be nonperforming, age is no bar, nevertheless senior workers add the flavors of experience to the services.
Regarding the poor results and the declining enrollment in the government schools Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum believes that it was a phenomenal issue and causes are multi factorial in origin but unfortunately the govt is blindly gauging the pressure on teachers only which is neither genuine, nor justified. The condition of govt schools when seen in comparison to private schools is weak, but it is not in Jammu and Kashmir only but in every other state of India or in a bigger dimension in many parts of the world, why should be the teachers of Jammu and Kashmir punished alone. The statement said.
Wani, Former Teachers Forum Chairman asked , How was the condition of govt schools of Delhi improved gradually and today those schools are considered at par with private schools, why were not the teachers of Delhi insulted as Dead-Wood’, instead, they were provided a system under which they worked.
Calling a 55 year old teacher dead-wood and then talking of his termination is sheer insult not to him in person only but to the whole society of Jammu and Kashmir which is intolerable, the statement said
Forum said that there is scope for reformation and every body is desirous to see govt schools at par with private sector but it needs proper planning . overall system reform will bring a time bound change in govt schools than to act on peripheral strategies that won’t bring any change in the basic system but will only aggravate the sentiments of elderly humans ..
