Printers Association Kashmir holds extraordinary meeting

Skyrocketing prices of printing materials and other issues discussed

Srinagar: An extraordinary meeting of Printers Association of Kashmir was held on Saturday in Srinagar under the chairmanship of President Bilal Ahmad Qureshi. The meeting was attended by all the members of the association and the current situation was discussed.
According to a statement received by Kashmir Press Service, the meeting expressed deep concern over the 30 to 40 per cent increase in the prices of raw materials required for the publication of newspapers. “It has direct bearing on newspaper owners as it costs a lot of money because the printing material including plate, ink prices and increase in electricity fees have forced the press owners to change the printing charges of the newspapers”.
In order to maintain the integrity and importance of the sector i-e newspapers, the meeting said that immediate and concrete steps should be taken to moderate the prices of printing materials (raw materials) by revising them so that the owners of printing press and newspaper owners can get rid of the hassles.
Some important decisions were taken in the meeting. Among others, the meeting decided that if any newspaper owner tries to publish newspapers by keeping arrears on any printing press and turns to other presses, then the publication of those newspapers will be stopped and not carried out by any printing press. The decision was sealed by consensus. The meeting thanked the Information and Public Relations Department for releasing the arrears on account of advertisements published in the newspapers on a monthly basis. “It has become a resource for owners of the newspapers and with the same amount of money they can ensure the publication of newspapers”
