‘Coup’ in PHD chamber of Commerce and Industry Kashmir
PHD chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) Kashmir has found itself in the eye of a storm as its executive members have alleged that all rules have been flouted to nominate a new chairman and elect new office bearers.
Member of the executive committee of PHDCCI-Kashmir G N Var has approached the court against the flouting of rules.
The court while coming to the rescue has stayed the nominations of new members and change of office bearers. According to the petition, the trouble started brewing in the chamber in October 2022 when former chairperson Mushtaq Ahmad Chaya nominated Vicky Shaw as chairperson of the said organisation.
According to the petition filed in the court, the nomination was done without any authority as nomination was subjected to the approval or decision of the executive members of the committee but the same was done by the former chairperson unilaterally without any authority or right.
“The said act of nominating defendant as chairperson by unilateral decision which was made in the month of October 2022 overshadowing the fact that the consent of the existing members of the executive committee was compulsorily required,” the petition reads.
“We didn’t know about the nomination of new chairman. It came to fore during a dinner party of selected few wherein Vicky Shaw presented documents to some members declaring himself as chairman. Other members were given charge of various posts in the organisation, literally on dinner plates.
Furthermore it was revealed that more than 10 members have been added to the organisation unilaterally and without the consent of executive committee,” said Var while terming it as blatant flouting of rules and regulations withs serious repercussions.
The matter was taken to Deputy Secretary General PHDCCI Delhi with no results.
The members expressed their anger at the issuing of notices and communications by the ‘self-styled’ chairperson on behalf of PHDCCI-Kashmir.
“The executive committee didn’t elect him how can he use name of PHDCCI to issue communication,” said Var.
As the matter became serious, the Executive Committee decided to approach court and get the new changes at PHDCCI stayed.
