World Heritage week begins at Archives, Archaeology and Museums Department
The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums is celebrating World Heritage week commencing from 19th to 25th November, 2022.
The name itself is self explanatory in terms of the scale on which it is celebrated all through the globe.
The Heritage week is observed to celebrate the diversity of our cultural heritage and efforts required for the preservation of our tangible and intangible heritage.
On this event, the Department has organized exhibitions at different venues. One exhibition was organized at Art Museum, Old Sectt. Stone building, Srinagar, on the theme Modern Art, another exhibition was organized at Art gallery, Old Assembly building, Shergari complex, on the theme Manuscripts and Archival Heritage. However the main exhibition was held at SPS Museum, Lalmandi, Srinagar on the theme Monumental glory of Kashmir and Rare Manuscripts.
The exhibition was inaugurated by the Director, School Education, Kashmir in which thousands of students participated on the inaugural day of the World Heritage week. Cultural programmes were also presented by Bonvivant School, Srinagar and the Director, School Education, Kashmir, was impressed by the rich heritage housed in S P S Museum and cultural heritage programmes held at SPS Museum.
The whole event was organized by the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums under the able guidance of Worthy Director. Pradeep Kumar, I.A.S. and Deputy Director, Mushtaq Ahmad Beigh and to mark the occasion, thousands of students participated on the inaugural day of the World Heritage week.
The students showed keen interest in Arts, crafts and artifacts that are on display inside the Museum. The children of various schools are been taken for a guided tour of various galleries of Museum where they were made aware of the cultural legacy on display.
The event at the main venue is curated and supervised by Mtr. Rabia Qureshi, Curator, SPS Museum.
Regarding spreading the awareness of Art and Culture, on spot directions were given by the Director, School Education Kashmir to Cultural Wing of Directorate of School Education, Kashmir to encourage schools to visit the museum to get acquainted with the rich cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir.
