Development journalism gets leg up as Blitz India hosts mega event
To celebrate the one-year successful journey of development journalism in the country, Blitz India organised a grand event at the India International Centre, in New Delhi on February 18.
Besides the high-profile dignitaries on the stage, the event was attended by some of the top names in the field of academics, law, politics, bureaucracy, and journalism.
India’s Solicitor General Tushar Mehta was the Chief Guest of the evening, while UP Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak was the Distinguished Guest. Justice Ranjana Prasad Desai, Chairperson, Press Council of India, G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant and former bureaucrat Om Pathak were the Guests of Honour.
The occasion also witnessed the launch of the UK edition of Blitz India, besides the legal supplement of the newspaper, titled Blitz Legal. An upgraded website and the YouTube channel of Blitz India were also launched simultaneously.
In his opening address, Deepak Dwivedi, Chairman & Editor-Chief of Blitz India, spoke of the rationale behind the launch of the newspaper focused on development news, the negativity and slew of allegations it had to withstand in the initial stages and his resolve to carry forward the mission with greater vigor.
All the four dignitaries, in their speeches, lauded the pioneering efforts of Blitz India and exhorted all other publications in the country to follow suit. The development agenda being pursued by the Government and all positive initiatives being carried out by individuals and institutions needs to be highlighted and spread across all corners of the country and abroad, they stressed.
Solicitor General Mehta focused on the subject, which he has been zealously pursuing – justice for all. G20 Sherpa Kant, in his address, mentioned various ambitious schemes which are being successfully implemented across the country. Regrettably, he said, such developmental projects hardly ever find a mention in the media.
In her address, Justice Desai mentioned the complaints that come against the print media to the Press Council for arbitration. UP Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak dwelt on the various development projects undertaken by the Modi Government.
Blitz India, the country’s first weekly chronicle devoted to development journalism, was launched in New Delhi on February 5 last year. In September, it was launched at a gala function in Mumbai.
The weekly has plans to come out from all the major cities of the country in the near future.
