Construction of CUK will soon be initiated on fast track basis

The long-standing construction issue of Central University of Kashmir .(CUK) in Tullamulla, Ganderbal seems to be finally nearing resolution.

The construction of the CUK has been an issue, as the project faced several challenges, including the issue of it being a marshy land and local employment issues, amid political interferences. However, with the report now having been submitted to the ministry, it appears that the construction of the university will soon be initiated on fast track basis.

The CUK campus will shall be built on 503 acres of land allocated at Tullmullah -Barsoo- kurhama and Zarigund patch and will feature a state of art constructions as per the Master Plan approved by the University. As of now an administrative cum academic building with an area of one lakh sq. feet is coming up at a fast pace on the allocated land and over the last few years only, buildings housing at least Seven departments had already come up. The vexed issues with NBCC and NPCC has been resolved and constructions resumed. At present, more than 1000 students are conducting their classes from the main campus at Tullamulla, said Prof. Zargar and in another few weeks, two more departments are expected to be shifted to the main campus at Tullmullah for their operation. L The DPR of the residential camp at Watlar is also under process with the CPWD and the current pre-engineering structure are also under use as of now.

Furthermore, in most departments, morthan 95% or more of admissions seats are filled out of which one seat has been reserved for locals in every department. However, the university is still facing one major problem, which is the issue of providing hostel accommodation to its students, to which Mr Zargar affirmed that the university administration is working very hard to resolve this issue as well. Central University has become one of the first Universit in the UT of J&K to adopt the NEP 2020 for its PG programmes and is making its admissions on National level through CUET. As of now, the University is seeking admission for its admissions programme to UG/ PG and integrated programme for 2023 batch through CUET 2023 to be conducted though NTA and the advertisements have already been floated, quipped the Registrar. The present administration headed by Prof Farooq A Shah, the officiating Vice Chancellor is leaving no stone unturned to take the University to newer heights, reported the Registrar.

The construction of the CUK is expected to bring a positive change to the educational landscape of Kashmir and create new opportunities for students in the region. The university is a significant investment in the future of the region, and it is heartening to see that the hurdles that were delaying its construction are finally being overcome. The CUK shall be serving as a beacon of hope for the youth of Kashmir and pave the way for their brighter future.
