Illegal construction works goes rampant in Handwara, govt in slumber

Illegal construction is taking place in north Kashmir’s Handwara town.

According to sources, fresh illegal construction is taking place near old bus stand area of Handwara town.

As per local residents the department so far has not taken any action and the offenders are continuing illegal construction during the broad daylight. “The illegal construction is not new thing in Handwara but under the nose of the administration the land mafias are resorting to illegal constructions in the town,” said a local resident wishing not to get quoted.

Similarly another local on the condition of anonymity said: “In the prolonged absence of the executive officer in the town an incharge officer has been at the helm of affairs due to which the corruption and illegal construction has tremendously increased.”

It is pertinent to mention that corruption in Handwara is at its peak already as instead of dismantling illegal structures on the state land the corrupt employees and officials are giving freehand to offenders to raise illegal structures.

As per the information gather by the Kashmir Press Service, a number of shopping complexes have been constructed in the town without receiving permission from the concerned department at Town Bazaar, Old Bus Stand, Bypass Road, Hospital Road, Handwara-Kupwara road, Litter Nala and around Bus Stand.

Locals alleged that lack of action against the offenders seems the municipality team Handwara is also corrupt.

People have requested Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to stop the ongoing illegal construction in the area as soon as possible.
