Awareness Program Regarding Dowry & Maintenance organized by TLSC Chadoora

Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Chadoora under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority, organized a Legal Awareness Programme at Sheikh-Ul-Alam High School Chadoora titled “Dowry & Maintenance”

The event was held under the directions & guidance of Mr. Jahangir Ahmed Bakshi, Secretary District Legal Services Authority Budgam and Mr. Mir Wajahat Chairperson, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Chadoora.

The event, aimed at raising awareness and educating the community, featured a series of informative speeches and performances.


The event was attended by Mr. Mir Wajahat Chairperson, Tehsil Legal Services Committee, Chadoora as a Chief Guest. Adv. A.R.Hanjura, Adv. Nazir Ahmad Bar Members, Mr. Mohamad Yaqoob Ahmad Principal Sheikh Ul Alam High School, School Staff & Management & Students. Staff, PLV & Panel Lawyers of TLSC Chadoora were also present during the event.


Mr. Mir Wajahat, delivered a keynote address highlighting various laws and regulations related to dowry and maintenance.

He emphasized the importance of understanding and enforcing these laws to protect individuals and uphold justice. "Our legal framework provides robust protections against dowry and for maintenance. It is crucial for everyone to be aware of these provisions and to utilize them to combat these social evils," said Mr. Wajahat.


Advocate AR Hanjura delivered a brief speech focusing on the legal rights and remedies available for maintenance under personal laws. He urged the audience to be proactive in seeking legal help.


Advocate Nazir Ahmad discussed the practical aspects of filing maintenance cases and the support available through legal services.     

Various students from Sheikh Ul Alam Hr Sec School delivered speeches addressing the social evils of dowry and maintenance, providing a youthful perspective on these critical issues.

Their speeches highlighted the need for societal change and the role of the younger generation in driving this change.


A skit performed by the students further illustrated the detrimental effects of dowry practices and the importance of legal awareness. The performance was well-received and served as a powerful reminder of the need for collective action against these social issues.


At the conclusion of the seminar, certificates of appreciation were distributed among the speakers, recognizing their valuable contributions to the event and their ongoing efforts to promote legal literacy and social justice.


The seminar concluded with a Q&A session, allowing attendees to engage with the speakers and gain a deeper understanding of the discussed issues.
