Dehradun Orthopaedic Society Celebrates National Bone and Joint Day with Awareness Programs and Honorees

The Dehradun Orthopaedic Society, in collaboration with the Society for Health, Education, and Women Empowerment Awareness (SHEWA), organized a full-day program at Red Fox Hotel, Rajpur Road, to commemorate National Bone and Joint Day. The event featured scientific discussions and honored past and present office bearers of the society.

The celebration, which has been observed by the Indian Orthopaedic Association since 2012, aims to raise awareness about bone and joint health. Chief Guest Dr. Tara Arya, Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Uttarakhand, along with Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay, Founder President of the Uttaranchal Chapter of the Indian Orthopaedic Association, and Dr. S. N. Singh, President of the Dehradun Orthopaedic Society, presented awards to the honorees.

Dr. Sanjay emphasized the importance of locomotion for maintaining vital organ health, stating, “The health of the hands and feet is as important as that of the heart and lungs.” He urged medical professionals to prioritize their health and promote awareness of the muscular-skeletal system. He introduced the acronym DEWS (Diet, Exercise, Work, and Sleep) as key components for a healthy and fulfilling life, noting that yoga, exercise, and sleep serve as no-cost health boosters.

Dr. Tara Arya highlighted the unique healthcare needs of remote and hilly areas in Uttarakhand, where back and joint pain are prevalent. She reaffirmed the government's commitment to enhancing orthopaedic services in these regions.

Dr. S. N. Singh reiterated the crucial role of orthopaedic surgeons in maintaining public bone and joint health and the importance of raising awareness about musculoskeletal health. Dr. Gaurav Sanjay, Joint Secretary of the society, expressed gratitude to the chief guests, past and present office bearers, and delegates who participated in the program.

During the event, several distinguished medical professionals, including Dr. Sudhir Gupta, Dr. JP Nawani, Dr. VK Nautiyal, Dr. Anand Goyal, Dr. HK Joshi, and others, were honored for their contributions to orthopaedic care.
