BIS conducts search and seizure operations at 4 locations in Kashmir
A team of officers from the Jammu & Kashmir Branch of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the Department of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and the Legal Metrology Department, conducted search and seizure operations at four locations across the Kashmir Valley today.
The first team, led by Pankaj Atri, Joint Director of BIS JKBO, along with Md Muzaffar Wani from the Legal Metrology Department, discovered violations of the Quality Control Order (QCO) at the Diamond Grinding Media Industry, seizing a significant quantity of iron ingots.
In a second operation, Niraj Mishra, Deputy Director of BIS, and Md Yusuf from the Department of FCS & CA seized jewelry without BIS Hallmark from Bala Jewelers in Downtown Srinagar.
The third team, led by Hitesh Yadav, Deputy Director of BIS, along with Mr. Tajamul Yusuf from the Department of FCS & CA, also conducted searches on Hari Singh High Street, Srinagar, though specific findings were not detailed.
Finally, Raj Kumar, Assistant Director of BIS, and Mr. Mudasir Rashid from the Legal Metrology Department found violations at the Kashmir Glass premises in Khonmoh, where they seized a large quantity of iron toughened glass.
BIS is initiating action against the offenders under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, specifically for violations of sections 11, 14(6), 14(8), 15, and 17. Offenders face penalties of up to one year in prison or fines starting at Rs. 1 lakh, or both.
BIS officials emphasized the prevalence of fake ISI-marked and hallmarked products being sold to consumers. They urged the public to verify the authenticity of Standards Marks by visiting the BIS website at [www.bis.gov.in](http://www.bis.gov.in) or using the BIS Care App.
