JKCSF Calls for Urgent Survey, Compensation for Crop Damage in South Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) is calling for an immediate assessment of the extensive damage to fruit, rice, and vegetable crops in South Kashmir, particularly in the Shopian and Kulgam districts.

Abdul Qayoom Wani, Chairman of JKCSF, has raised concerns with the LG administration over the severe impact of recent hailstorms and strong winds on local agriculture. “The hailstorms and gusty winds have dealt a devastating blow to the orchards and fields in Shopian and Kulgam,” Wani said. “Ripe crops have been ruined, and the hopes of many farmers have been dashed. A prompt survey and appropriate compensation are essential for these growers to recover from their losses.”

Agriculture and horticulture are vital to the livelihoods of rural Kashmir’s population. The damage to crops not only causes significant financial strain but also leads to considerable emotional distress for the farmers.

The JKCSF is urging the government to expedite compensation for the affected growers and their families to prevent further hardship and ensure their survival.
