JKCSF Calls for Reinstatement of Traditional November School Timings in Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has issued an appeal to reinstate the traditional school timing in Kashmir from November 1st. Citing the climatic conditions and seasonal changes, JKCSF has urged authorities to shift school timings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a practice that traditionally continues until March 31st each year.

JKCSF Chairman, Abdul Qayoom Wani, emphasized that this timing adjustment is essential to align with Kashmir’s autumn and winter seasons, ensuring that students and staff alike benefit from more suitable daylight hours and safer travel conditions. The shift acknowledges the colder, shorter days characteristic of this time of year and has historically provided a practical and comfortable environment for learning.

“The traditional school timing during these months has long been a part of our educational framework in Kashmir, respecting both the climatic realities and the well-being of our students and staff. This tradition should be upheld,” Wani stated.

The JKCSF calls on relevant authorities to implement this change promptly, prioritizing the needs and safety of Kashmir’s educational community.
