Soz Visits Shahr-e-Khaas, Assesses Public Issues, Pays Obeisance at Shrines
Former Union Minister Prof. Saifuddin Soz on Sunday conducted an extensive tour of the historic Shahr-e-Khaas areas of Srinagar, including Safa Kadal, Nawa Kadal, and Aali Kadal, to assess the local issues faced by residents.
During his visit, Prof. Soz engaged with various groups from the community who highlighted several pressing concerns.
In Safa Kadal and Nawa Kadal, residents brought attention to infrastructural and developmental issues, particularly the drainage water flowing directly into the Jhelum near the Nadal Kadal Bridge. People from Nawa Kadal also raised their demand for a Marriage Hall, retention walls along the riverbank, and fencing around the graveyard near the Nawa Kadal mosque. Prof. Soz assured the gathered delegations that he would take up these issues with the state administration for immediate redressal.
During his visit to Aali Kadal, locals expressed frustration over the delay in the fencing of the Aali Kadal Bridge, despite the project having been sanctioned months ago. Prof. Soz assured them that he would press the authorities for faster action on this matter.
Prof. Soz also paid his respects at the shrines of Hazrat Syed Abdul Rehman – Bulbul Shah Saheb (R.A) and Hazrat Alama Mulla Muhammad Ahmad Saheb (R.A), praying for peace and tranquility in the region.
In the final leg of his tour, Prof. Soz visited Shallabug Wetlands, which, unfortunately, have completely dried up. He called for immediate attention from the district administration to address the environmental concerns surrounding the wetlands.
Accompanying Prof. Soz during his visit were Mr. Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, Ahmad Ayaz, Irfan Ahmad Dar, Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Mehrajuddin, Abdul Hamid, along with social activists, journalists, and local residents.
