Conman Arrested in Srinagar for Fraudulent Promise to Secure Police Favor
Police Station Nowhatta has registered a case after receiving a written complaint from Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, son of Bakhtawar Sheikh, a resident of Zahid Pora, Hawal.
In his complaint, Showkat accused Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, son of Mohd Sultan Sheikh, a resident of Sheikh Colony, Makhdoom Sahib, of fraudulently taking Rs 30,000 from him under the pretext of securing the release of Showkat’s brother, Sajad Sheikh, who was in police custody in connection with Case FIR No. 55/2024, registered under Sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act.
It is important to note that Sajad Sheikh, son of Bakhtawar Sheikh and a resident of Sheikh Colony, Hawal, was lawfully arrested by the Police Station Nowhatta in the aforementioned case. However, the accused, Fayaz Ahmad Sheikh, allegedly exploited the situation by falsely claiming to have influence and promising to arrange the release of the complainant's brother, ultimately taking Rs 30,000 from Showkat under these pretenses.
In response to the complaint, Police Station Nowhatta promptly registered FIR No. 01/2025 under Section 318 of the BNS. During the investigation, law enforcement officials successfully recovered the full amount of Rs 30,000 from the accused.
Further investigation into the case is ongoing, and authorities are working to ascertain the full extent of the fraud.
