Omar is Beneficiary of Alliance, Now Seeks to Appease BJP: Sheikh Khursheed

Awami Itihad Party (AIP) Senior Leader and MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed Ahmad, launched a scathing attack on J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, accusing him of political opportunism and betraying the trust of those relying on the opposition to counter the BJP’s divisive agenda.

Khursheed criticized Omar’s ambiguous stance on the INDI Alliance and Delhi Assembly elections, calling it a betrayal of the people’s faith in the opposition.

“Omar Abdullah’s statement that ‘we have nothing to do with the Delhi elections’ is a shocking abdication of responsibility. He conveniently ignores that the BJP’s assault on democracy extends beyond just the Lok Sabha elections. By distancing himself, he is emboldening the BJP’s plans,” Sheikh Khursheed said.

Referring to the words of Er Rashid, Khursheed added, “As Er Rashid rightly pointed out, betrayal runs in Omar’s genes. He and his party squandered the massive mandate given to them by the people of J&K for personal power. Now, Omar is using the INDI Alliance merely as a political tool, showing no real commitment to its collective cause.”

Khursheed further criticized Omar’s complaint about a lack of "clarity on agenda and leadership" within the INDI bloc, questioning his sincerity. “If there’s no clarity, why is he clinging to the alliance? This hypocrisy exposes his inability to lead or contribute meaningfully to the opposition,” he said.

Taking aim at Omar’s credibility, Khursheed remarked, “Omar Abdullah and his party have always been opportunistic in alliances. Just recently, he was counting the votes of an AAP candidate while passing resolutions in the assembly. If he can’t demonstrate loyalty and consistency in such basic alliances, how can anyone trust him to stand firm in the INDI Alliance? His duplicity weakens the alliance and exposes his lack of commitment to defeating BJP’s divisive politics.”

Khursheed also questioned Omar’s refusal to confront the BJP in the Delhi elections, calling it an "open invitation for the BJP to consolidate power." He accused the Chief Minister of putting personal interests above the greater good, undermining both the alliance and democratic principles.

Concluding his statement, Sheikh Khursheed called on opposition leaders to take decisive action. “Omar Abdullah must decide whether he stands with the people or with his own convenience. His duplicity not only weakens the opposition but also betrays the trust of those who expect leaders to resist BJP’s authoritarianism. If Omar cannot act decisively, he should step aside,” he asserted.
