Srinagar: Anger erupted in Tangmarg’s Haji Bal area following an incident involving a Revenue Department officer, who allegedly mistreated an elderly local man and used offensive and derogatory remarks about his beard.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with residents demanding swift disciplinary action against the officer.
According to sources, the controversy began when Naib Tehsildar Farooq Ahmad Najar visited the Shala Nag area of Tangmarg to investigate a dispute over grazing land. During his visit, when confronted by local residents about what they perceived as discriminatory treatment regarding the removal of encroachments, Najar reportedly ignored their objections and responded with rudeness.
The issue at hand revolves around the alleged preferential treatment given to influential individuals who have encroached on grazing land in the area. While the authorities have turned a blind eye to these powerful land grabbers, they have swiftly acted to remove encroachments made by others, prompting accusations of bias and unfairness from the local community.
During his visit, Naib Tehsildar Najar allegedly became agitated while listening to public grievances, and in a moment of frustration, he used foul language toward a local elderly man. According to reports, the officer made derogatory comments about the elderly man's beard, which has further fueled anger in the community.
The officer's actions have sparked intense resentment, with local residents now demanding immediate action against him. They have also decided to escalate the matter to the District Development Commissioner, urging an official investigation into the incident.
In response to the growing protests, local people have taken to the streets, calling for justice and accountability.
Despite efforts by KPS to reach Naib Tehsildar Farooq Ahmad Najar for comment, the officer remained evasive and refused to provide any explanation regarding the incident.
As the situation continues to unfold, the demand for a fair and transparent inquiry into the matter grows stronger among the residents of Tangmarg.
