The much-anticipated English translation of Ae’l Naash, the acclaimed Kashmiri poetry collection by Brij Nath Pandit Betab, was officially launched today.
Titled The Ruined Nest, the book’s first copy was presented to His Excellency, Shri Manoj Sinha, the honorable Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, during a ceremony at the Raj Bhawan in Jammu on the occasion of the 76th Republic Day.
The Ruined Nest has been translated by Mushtaque B. Barq, a distinguished Kashmiri author, poet, and translator known for his significant contributions to both regional and English literature. Barq praised Betab’s poetry as a profound addition to Kashmiri literature, noting the emotional depth and cultural richness that permeates the verses.
In his address, Betab expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor for his ongoing support and encouragement. He also thanked Mushtaque B. Barq for his meticulous translation, which, according to Betab, captures the essence of the original poetry with remarkable accuracy and beauty.
Published by Yashita Prakashan, Delhi, The Ruined Nest spans 112 pages and features eighty evocative poems that explore themes of loss, nature, and the human condition. The collection offers readers a deep insight into the emotional and cultural landscapes of Kashmir, making it a significant contribution to the world of literature.
The release of this translated work represents a milestone in the journey of Kashmiri literature. The Ruined Nest not only brings Betab’s poignant verses to a global audience but also bridges the gap between Kashmir’s rich literary heritage and the wider literary community.
