Er Rashid’s Hunger Strike Enters 5th Day, Son Reveals Weight Loss

On the fifth consecutive day of his indefinite hunger strike at Tihar Jail, incarcerated Member of Parliament Engineer Rashid has reportedly lost five kilograms in just four days, his younger son, Asrar Rashid, revealed in a social media post. Despite his deteriorating health, Engineer Rashid remains resolute in his fight for justice, showing no signs of backing down.

Asrar, who visited his father at the high-security facility, shared an update on the MP's condition, underscoring the gravity of the situation. "He has lost significant weight but his resolve is unbroken," Asrar wrote, drawing attention to the harsh toll the hunger strike has taken on Rashid’s physical well-being.

Engineer Rashid, a prominent leader of the Awami Ittihad Party (AIP), initiated the hunger strike to protest what he and his supporters have termed as an unjust incarceration and to demand justice for various grievances.

In solidarity with Rashid, AIP’s Chief Spokesperson, Inam Un Nabi, reiterated the party’s commitment to the Indian judiciary and Constitution, expressing confidence that justice would ultimately prevail. "We firmly believe in the principles enshrined in the Constitution of India and are confident that justice will prevail. Engineer Rashid's dedication to his mission for democracy and truth reflects his unyielding spirit," Un Nabi stated.

In a bid to amplify their cause, the AIP recently launched the “Release Er Rashid Campaign.” The campaign seeks to highlight perceived injustices, draw attention to public grievances, and rally for the MP’s release. Supporters have vowed to take the message to every corner of the state, continuing to demand justice for their leader while also urging authorities to address his deteriorating health urgently.

The party has made it clear that Rashid’s health is deteriorating at an alarming rate, and they are calling for immediate medical intervention to prevent any further harm. As Rashid’s hunger strike persists, the political and public pressure continues to mount, drawing increasing attention to the case.
