From the Pen of Surgeons’: A Book Beyond Surgeries – Panel Discussion Held in Dehradun

A panel discussion on the book ‘From the Pen of Surgeons’ was organized by Sanjay Orthopaedic, Spine, and Maternity Centre at the Doon Library and Research Centre, Dehradun. The event saw prominent figures from various sectors come together to celebrate the authors’ work, which goes beyond the realm of medicine to address a range of social and public health issues.

The event was inaugurated by Padma Shri Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay, renowned Orthopedic Surgeon, along with co-author Dr. Gaurav Sanjay, both of whom are the masterminds behind this extraordinary book. The ceremony was attended by Chief Guest Shri Anil Raturi, Retd. IPS, Chairperson Dr. Sanjeev Chopra, Founder of Valley of Words, and Guest of Honour Lt. Gen. J. S. Negi, Retd General Officer, IMA, along with other notable dignitaries including Prof. Onkar Singh, VC of Veer Madho Singh Bhandari Uttarakhand Technical University, and Justice Rajesh Tandon, Retd. Judge of the High Court.

The event commenced with the lighting of the lamp, followed by a warm welcome from Retd. IAS N. Ravishankar, Director of the Doon Library, who congratulated the authors for creating an insightful work that merges both medical and non-medical themes to bring awareness to vital health and social concerns. He also encouraged guests to utilize the library's premises for similar educational activities in the future.

During the discussion, the authors shared their motivations behind writing ‘From the Pen of Surgeons’, a compilation of columns that touch on topics such as public health, nutrition, education, and various societal issues. Dr. B. K. S. Sanjay emphasized that health, education, and nutrition are fundamental to every individual’s well-being and that raising awareness about these topics is crucial for the nation’s progress. Dr. Gaurav Sanjay added that the book aims to spread knowledge and provoke thought among citizens and medical professionals alike, encouraging them to take action in addressing public health and social issues.

Chief Guest Shri Anil Kumar Raturi highlighted the noble profession of doctors, calling them the “saviors of lives,” and stressed the importance of education for the development of society. He also noted the lasting impact of words, which transcend the boundaries of any profession.

Justice Rajesh Tandon commended the authors for their role in raising public awareness and reminded everyone of their collective responsibility to promote health and wellness. He also underscored the significance of addressing environmental concerns, particularly in the state of Uttarakhand.

Prof. Onkar Singh discussed the influence of artificial intelligence on the ecosystem, urging parents to teach their children to wisely use technology as a tool rather than blindly relying on it.

Lt. Gen. J. S. Negi spoke on a variety of issues raised in the book, including health, education, nutrition, overpopulation, and road safety. He emphasized the importance of longevity and good health and stressed that youth should be guided in the right direction, with a focus on tackling overpopulation and illiteracy.

Chairperson Dr. Sanjeev Chopra praised the book for its range of topics, from health to social issues, and described it as a valuable contribution to society.

Dr. Arun Kumar Mandal applauded the authors for balancing their busy medical careers with writing such a significant book. He also praised India’s ancient civilization and the authors’ dedication to serving the nation through their work.

Dr. Gaurav Sanjay concluded the event by expressing his gratitude to all the guests and attendees for their presence and support. The program was conducted by Mrs. Simran Suri, who kept the event engaging and insightful.
