Traders Federation Baramulla Calls for Support on Alcohol Ban Bill
The Traders Federation Baramulla convened an extraordinary meeting on Saturday to address pressing issues concerning both Baramulla and the broader Jammu & Kashmir region.
The meeting, chaired by Federation President Er. Tariq Ahmad Mughloo, saw the participation of key stakeholders from various sectors. One of the major points discussed was the recent private members' bill introduced in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, which seeks to impose a ban on the sale of alcohol across the Union Territory.
Er. Mughloo voiced strong support for the bill, which was moved by three legislators from different political parties. He urged all members of the Legislative Assembly to unite in backing the proposal, highlighting that alcohol consumption and drug addiction are two of the most serious challenges currently facing the people of Jammu and Kashmir. These issues, he stated, have destroyed countless families across all 20 districts of the UT.
In his address, Er. Mughloo called on legislators from North Kashmir to lend their full support to the bill within the Assembly, stressing that the decision is vital for the future, particularly the well-being of the younger generation. He expressed optimism that the government would take the matter seriously and enact a ban on the sale of alcohol.
Pointing to examples from other parts of India, Mughloo reminded attendees that states such as Gujarat and Bihar have already declared themselves dry states. He concluded by saying that the time has come for Jammu and Kashmir to follow suit, noting that a growing number of political leaders and citizens are advocating for such a move.
