Qayoom Wani Expresses Discontent Over Delayed Justice for Pensioners, Urges Intervention from CM
Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum and President of Pensioners United Front, Ab Qayoom Wani, has voiced serious concern over the delayed justice regarding legitimate rights of pensioners in Jammu and Kashmir. In a statement, Wani expressed frustration, stating that pensioners have been left struggling for their rightful dues, including pension, leave salary, gratuity, and G.P. Fund.
He said it was "unfortunate" that pensioners are having to move from pillar to post for these benefits, with some facing delays of over six months.
Wani criticized the government for its indifference towards the plight of pensioners and senior citizens, pointing out the "thick-skinned" attitude of those in power who seem unaware of the "pathetic condition" these individuals face. He also expressed displeasure over the failure of the Finance Department to implement clear-cut decisions by the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) regarding the excess deduction of commutation.
In addition, Wani raised concerns about the government's double standards, specifically pointing to the recent increase in medical allowances up to one thousand rupees in other Union Territories, such as Ladakh, one year ago, while Jammu and Kashmir has yet to follow suit. He also called for the implementation of the Senior Citizens Act, which was passed by the government in 2017, noting that the current Chief Minister had shown a positive approach towards resolving this issue, which would benefit lakhs of senior citizens.
Wani questioned the government’s intentions, asking, "What message is the Jammu and Kashmir government trying to convey to its employees with these delays and double standards in addressing legitimate issues?"
He further warned that if these issues are not addressed soon, the Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum and Pensioners United Front will have no choice but to take to the streets to fight against this injustice.
Wani appealed directly to the Honorable Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, urging his personal intervention to resolve these pressing concerns at the earliest.
