Public Eyes Fixed on Assembly and Politicians Regarding Alcohol and Drug Issues: Allama Hami
The role of saints and Sufis in guiding the Muslim community has always been pivotal, beautifully representing both the spiritual and practical aspects of Islam.
These revered figures not only followed the sacred Shariah individually but also established foundational principles of religion and humanity at the grassroots level. This helped the common people understand the true essence of these values.
Sheikh Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami, leader of Karwan-e-Islami, expressed these views during his address at the Central Jama Masjid Sharif, Reshi Moul (RA) Sahib in Anantnag, where people from various regions gathered for the blessed Friday. Speaking about the significance of fasting in the holy month of Ramadan, Allama Hami emphasized that the way of life of pure-hearted Sufis, including Reshi Moul (RA), has always been to guide people towards fasting in its true spiritual essence, enabling them to benefit from its virtues and blessings. He highlighted that fasting also contributes to the societal development and progress of the community.
Allama Hami further stressed that fasting serves as the best means of promoting generosity, compassion, and mutual love — qualities that were embodied by the saints and Sufis of the past and are urgently needed today. He urged the government to take immediate and concrete steps to eliminate alcohol consumption and drug abuse in the state, calling for strict legislation and its rigorous enforcement.
Expressing grave concern over the rising rates of alcohol consumption and drug addiction in the valley, Allama Hami called on government institutions to act swiftly, working within a proper legal framework to eradicate these social evils and ensure a healthier future for the population. He emphasized that the entire state is looking to the government for decisive action.
