Ganderbal Marks World Tuberculosis Day with Road Rally and Seminar

On World Tuberculosis Day, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Ganderbal organized a road rally and seminar under the theme "Yes We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver," emphasizing collective action to eradicate the disease. The events aimed to raise awareness and promote early detection and treatment of tuberculosis (TB) in the region.
The road rally, inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer Dr. Bashir Ahmad Khan, alongside Medical Superintendent of District Hospital (DH) Ganderbal Dr. Nighat Yasmin, District Immunization Officer (DIO) Dr. Bushra, and Block Medical Officers (BMOs), commenced at District Hospital Ganderbal and concluded at the CMO’s office. Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and program units from various blocks actively participated, chanting slogans such as "End TB" and "TB Harega, Desh Jeetega" to inspire community resolve.
Following the rally, a seminar was held at District Hospital Ganderbal, presided over by Dr. Bashir Ahmad Khan, Dr. Nighat Yasmin, DIO Dr. Bushra, BMOs, and other faculty heads. The event drew students, healthcare professionals, and public health workers, fostering a collaborative dialogue on TB elimination.
Dr. Umar Nazir, Nodal Officer for the National Tuberculosis Elimination Program (NTEP) in Ganderbal, delivered a comprehensive presentation on the global, national, and district-level TB scenario. He highlighted the program's provisions and stressed the critical need for early detection. Dr. Muzaffar Zargar, General Physician at DH Ganderbal, focused on TB in adults, outlining diagnostic and treatment methods while urging community awareness and adherence to safety protocols.
Dr. Abid, Pediatric Consultant at DH Ganderbal, addressed TB in children, debunking myths and misconceptions. He emphasized the importance of educating mothers and women to combat the disease effectively. Dr. Rameez, another physician at DH Ganderbal, discussed treatment approaches for both active and latent TB cases, reinforcing the need for sustained efforts.
The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Nighat Yasmin, Medical Superintendent and DIO, who underscored the value of such initiatives in the fight against TB. She called for continued awareness programs to achieve the goal of a TB-free Ganderbal.
The events reflect a strong commitment to tackling tuberculosis through education, community engagement, and healthcare collaboration in the district.
