Since assuming office as Chief Executive Officer of the Gulmarg Development Authority (GDA), Tariq Nayak has brought a wave of visible transformation to the world-famous tourist destination.
Known for its breathtaking beauty and skiing slopes, Gulmarg has seen significant administrative and infrastructural improvements under Nayak's leadership, with cleanliness, orderliness, and transparency becoming key focus areas.
One of the first issues CEO Nayak addressed was the overall cleanliness of Gulmarg. From clearing littered pathways to strengthening sanitation mechanisms, the efforts to maintain the environmental integrity of the region have been widely appreciated by locals and tourists alike. Regular cleanliness drives and stricter waste disposal norms have been implemented to ensure that the “Meadow of Flowers” remains spotless and inviting throughout the year.
The Children Park in Gulmarg has been renovated and hundreds of children throng the park daily.
Taking a step further in professionalizing the tourism experience, CEO Nayak has also proposed a plan to provide uniforms to local guides and ponywallas. The move, in collaboration with various Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), is aimed at creating a more organized and disciplined image of tourism service providers in Gulmarg.
The proposal has been welcomed by stakeholders as a thoughtful and necessary measure to elevate the visitor experience while also offering dignity and identity to local workers.
Another crucial achievement of Nayak has been the retrieval of several GDA-owned properties. In many cases, properties had been encroached upon or not utilized to their full potential. Under his leadership, these assets have been reclaimed and brought back under GDA's control, ensuring they contribute effectively to the resort’s development objectives.
CEO Nayak has issued clear directions regarding maintenance of GDA-leased properties. “No substandard material should be used for renovation and that the upkeep of these properties must adhere to high standards befitting an international tourist destination. Monitoring mechanisms are being strengthened to ensure that lessees comply with the stipulated norms,” state the directions.
The steps taken by CEO Tariq Nayak have not gone unnoticed. Stakeholders, including hotel owners, shopkeepers and ponywallashave hailed his proactive approach.
