Srinagar Police Crack Rs 10 Lakh Theft Case, Accused Arrested

Srinagar Police have solved a theft case involving the disappearance of nearly Rs 10 lakh from a local shop and arrested the accused, recovering a substantial portion of the stolen amount.

According to police, on April 15, a written complaint was received at Police Post Bagyas from Tauseef Ahmad Mir, a resident of Kaksarai, alleging that approximately Rs 10 lakh was stolen from a drawer in his shop during the intervening night of April 14–15.

Following the complaint, a case (FIR No. 38/2025) was registered at Police Station Safakadal under relevant sections of the law, and investigation was initiated.

During the investigation, several suspects were questioned. Technical evidence and CCTV footage were thoroughly analyzed, leading to the identification and arrest of the accused—Umar Ahmad Mir, son of Mohammad Ashraf Mir, a resident of Chanipora, Karnah.

Police said that upon his confession, Rs 7.5 lakh in stolen cash was recovered along with a scooty and a mobile phone that had been purchased using the stolen money.

Further investigation is underway to identify any other possible links or accomplices.

J&K Police reiterated its commitment to curbing social crimes and urged the public to report any suspicious activities or anti-social elements to help maintain peace and order.
