A Day After Pahalgam Terror Attack, Nearly 7,000 Tourists Ride Gulmarg Gondola
A day after the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead, tourist activity in Kashmir’s famed ski resort of Gulmarg remained resilient. On Wednesday, nearly 7,000 tourists boarded the Gulmarg Gondola, one of the highest cable cars in the world, underscoring a determination among visitors to continue exploring the Valley.
According to the Jammu & Kashmir Cable Car Corporation (JKCCC), as of 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 5,040 tourists (including 3,300 online and 1,740 on-site bookings) took the Gondola ride to Phase I. Additionally, 1,741 visitors (941 online and 800 on-site) boarded the cable car to Phase II.
In response to potential disruptions caused by the Pahalgam attack, the JKCCC announced that it will fully refund all “no show” or unconsumed Gondola tickets for visits dated April 22 and 23.
“As decided by the management of J&K Cable Car Corporation, all the no show/unconsumed Gulmarg Gondola tickets for Phase I and II having visit dates of 22nd and 23rd April shall be refunded in full,” the corporation posted on its official X handle.
Despite the somber mood following the attack, tourist turnout in Gulmarg signals a cautious but continued interest in Kashmir's travel circuit.
