Deeply shaken by the horrific incident that unfolded in Nishat, Qayoom Wani, Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), has issued a strong condemnation, calling the act a tragic reflection of the moral decay taking root in society.
Terming the incident as "barbaric," Wani said it underscores the urgent need to address the growing social evils that are eroding the Valley’s ethical and spiritual fabric — including rampant drug abuse, digital obscenity, and increasing alcohol consumption.
“As a society, we are witnessing a dangerous collapse of moral values. The rise in drug addiction, especially among our youth, is devastating communities and fueling crimes that were once unthinkable,” Wani said.
He reiterated JKCSF’s long-standing opposition to the sale and consumption of alcohol in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that such vices are not mere personal choices but social threats that open the door to greater violence and exploitation.
“I urge all religious leaders, civil society organisations, and conscious citizens to unite and take an active stand against the drug menace. We must act collectively — now — to save our future generations,” he added.
Calling for exemplary punishment, Wani demanded swift and transparent justice for the victim, stressing that “justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done — without delay.”
Expressing his heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family, he prayed for eternal peace for the deceased and strength for her loved ones in this time of immense grief.
