India Foils Pakistani Drone, Missile Strikes

The Indian Armed Forces have successfully thwarted a major Pakistani attempt to strike multiple military installations across Northern and Western India using drones and missiles, the Ministry of Defence confirmed in a statement released Thursday night.

According to the statement, Pakistan launched a coordinated attack during the night of May 7 and 8, targeting key locations including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj.

The attempted strikes were intercepted and neutralised by India's Integrated Counter-UAS Grid and Air Defence Systems. Authorities are currently recovering drone and missile debris from various locations, serving as evidence of the failed Pakistani assault.

In a calibrated counter-response, Indian Armed Forces on Friday morning targeted and destroyed Pakistani air defence radars and installations at several locations. The Defence Ministry noted that an air defence system near Lahore was successfully neutralised.

The statement further reported that Pakistan escalated its aggression along the Line of Control (LoC), intensifying unprovoked firing using mortars and heavy artillery in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors of Jammu and Kashmir.

Tragically, 16 civilians, including three women and five children, were killed in the Pakistani shelling.

“In each case, India was compelled to respond with appropriate force to silence Pakistani positions and halt further attacks,” the statement said.

The Indian Armed Forces reaffirmed their commitment to non-escalation, stressing that restraint would continue to be observed as long as Pakistan respects the ceasefire understanding.
