Militant hideout busted in South Kashmir: Police
Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed to have busted a militant hideout in the Imam Sahib area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, foiling a potential threat in the region.
Acting on credible inputs, a joint team of police and security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area. During the operation, a hidden cache was unearthed, which contained one pistol, a pistol magazine, two hand grenades, five pistol rounds, and 20 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition.
A police official said that the recovery is a significant achievement as it may have prevented a possible militant strike in the area. “Efforts are on to identify and nab the individuals involved in concealing these arms,” the official added.
The seizure comes amid heightened security across South Kashmir following inputs about militant movement. Police have intensified surveillance and search operations in sensitive areas to dismantle militant support networks.
Authorities have registered a case and initiated further investigation to trace the origins and intended use of the recovered weapons. Meanwhile, locals have lauded the police action, which they believe will contribute to a safer environment in the district. (CNS)
