Heatwave Conditions Likely in J&K

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast and advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, indicating generally hot and dry conditions over the next 10 days, with a chance of light rain and thundershowers at isolated locations.

Forecast Overview:

  • May 21–26: The weather is expected to remain mostly hot and dry across the Union Territory. However, there is a chance of brief spells of light rain at isolated places, particularly during late afternoon hours.

  • May 27–31: Similar weather conditions are predicted, with generally hot and dry days accompanied by a possibility of light rain or thundershowers at scattered locations.

Advisory Issued:

  • A rise in maximum temperatures by 1–2°C is likely across the Kashmir Division until May 23, raising the potential for heatwave-like conditions in scattered areas. A slight drop of 2–3°C is expected after this period.

  • In the Jammu Division, maximum temperatures are expected to increase by 2–3°C through May 26, with the possibility of heatwave conditions in several areas.

  • There is also a possibility of thunder and gusty winds at isolated places, particularly during late afternoons.

Authorities have advised people, especially the elderly and children, to stay hydrated and avoid direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours. Farmers and outdoor workers are also urged to take necessary precautions during this period of high temperatures.
