All-party parliamentary delegations from India met political leaders and diplomats across multiple countries this week in a concerted diplomatic push to galvanize international action against terrorism, following a deadly attack in Kashmir that killed 26 tourists.
The delegations visited countries including Colombia, Latvia, Denmark, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Algeria, Sierra Leone, Ethiopia, and Indonesia, seeking support for India's zero-tolerance stance against cross-border terrorism.
In Bogotá, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading the delegation, conveyed India’s position and expressed disappointment over Colombia offering condolences for Pakistani casualties following Indian retaliatory strikes. “There can be no equivalence between those who attack and those who defend,” BJP MP Tejasvi Surya said.
In Riyadh, BJP MP Baijayant Jay Panda emphasized India’s “New Normal” approach to terrorism. “India and Saudi Arabia reaffirmed their shared commitment to fighting terrorism,” the Indian Embassy said.
Delegations in Copenhagen, Pretoria, Riga, and Jakarta also conveyed India's policy of holding state sponsors of terrorism accountable, with several foreign officials expressing solidarity with India.
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after India conducted precision strikes on terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan responded with attempted strikes on Indian military installations over the following days. Hostilities de-escalated after military-level talks concluded on May 10.
Indian officials said the delegations aimed to build global consensus for coordinated action against terrorism and ensure diplomatic isolation of state-backed terror actors.
