BJP’s Tarun Chugh Seeks Apology from Congress Over Warring’s Remarks on Buta Singh
BJP national general secretary Tarun Chugh has demanded that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge issue an unconditional apology to the nation over alleged caste- and colour-based remarks made by Punjab Congress chief and MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring against the late Sardar Buta Singh, former Union Home Minister of India.
In a written statement, Chugh said, “The Congress has always exploited the downtrodden and weaker sections for political gain without ever working for their upliftment.”
Chugh alleged that during a public meeting in Tarn Taran, held as part of a by-election campaign, Warring made caste- and colour-specific remarks about the late Buta Singh, a respected Dalit leader. “On News18 Punjab, Warring admitted to describing Buta Singh as ‘dark-complexioned (kaale rang de sardar, pathe paun waala)’ while claiming his words were misunderstood,” Chugh said.
He asserted that such comments amount to public insult and humiliation of the Dalit community, violating constitutional guarantees of equality and dignity. “Warring’s remarks are not just an insult to one individual but a disgrace to the entire nation. The Congress must apologise for this shameful act,” Chugh said.
He demanded immediate disciplinary and legal action against Warring under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code.
“The Congress leadership must take moral responsibility. When elected representatives indulge in caste- or colour-based remarks, it strikes at the foundation of India’s democratic and constitutional values,” Chugh added.
As of now, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Raja Warring have not issued any formal response to the allegations.
