160 Naib Tehsildar posts vacant in J&K Revenue Department

The Jammu and Kashmir Revenue Department is facing a serious administrative crisis with 160 promotional posts of Naib Tehsildar lying vacant for several years, crippling the functioning of field offices and delaying key revenue-related work across the Union Territory.

Official sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that 152 Girdawars, who had successfully cleared the Revenue Service Examination conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC), have been serving as “Look After Naib Tehsildars” since January 2019. However, despite fulfilling all eligibility requirements, their formal promotions are still pending due to repeated delays in convening Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings.

“The non-convening of the DPC for such a long period has badly affected the functioning of the Revenue Department at the grassroots level. The government needs to expedite the process to fill these long-pending vacancies,” an official said.

Officials believe that once these vacancies are filled, it would not only restore administrative efficiency but also pave the way for the recruitment of 160 new Patwaris, ensuring smoother delivery of land-related and other essential public services. [KNT]
