Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami Calls for Nationwide Anti-Drug Awareness Campaigns

Chief of Karwani Islami International, Peer-e-Tariqat Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami, has stressed that the eradication of drugs and alcohol is essential for building a bright, disciplined, and morally resilient human society.

Addressing thousands of devotees at Central Jamia Masjid, Bidar Kokernag, Allama Hami highlighted the alarming rise in drug and alcohol abuse, warning of its devastating impact on the social, moral, and physical well-being of the younger generation. He described the growing addiction crisis as a major threat not only to the Kashmir Valley but to the entire nation.

“Intoxicants destroy both the body and soul. They consume mental peace, disrupt domestic harmony, weaken social bonds, and ruin the future of our youth,” he said, citing medical evidence that alcohol and narcotics cause severe damage to the liver, brain, heart, and nervous system.

Allama Hami further remarked that the spread of drugs is a root cause of social crimes, domestic violence, poverty, and moral decay. Appealing directly to the youth, he urged them to protect themselves, their families, and their communities from this “sinful and destructive menace.”

He called upon parents, teachers, religious scholars, social organizations, and educational institutions — including mosques, khanqahs, schools, colleges, and universities — to launch coordinated anti-drug awareness campaigns as part of their collective moral duty.

“The government must treat this as a human and ethical responsibility by enforcing a complete ban on the production, sale, and consumption of alcohol and narcotics to secure a healthy future for coming generations,” he urged.

Emphasizing Islam’s categorical prohibition of all substances that impair intellect or harm the body and soul, Allama Hami recalled that the pious saints (Auliya Allah) and Sufi scholars throughout history distanced humanity from evils, particularly alcohol, described as Umm-ul-Khabaith — the mother of all evils.

He concluded by calling for renewed efforts to present the noble life and exemplary character of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ as a timeless guide for moral and spiritual reform. “Hatred and extremism yield nothing but destruction and despair,” he cautioned, “while true progress lies in faith, knowledge, compassion, and moral discipline.”
