Teachings of Awliya, True Sufis Never Contradict the Qur’an and Sunnah: Hami

Chief of Karwani Islami International, Allama Dr. Ghulam Rasool Hami, on Friday said that the teachings of the noble Awliya and true Sufis have never contradicted the Qur’an and Sunnah, but rather have always served to strengthen and revive them. He was addressing a gathering of thousands at the Central Jamia Masjid Hazrat Shams Faqir, Budgam.

In his address, Allama Hami said that for every Muslim, guidance in all matters of life and death must be derived from the Holy Qur’an and the Sunnah of Syeduna Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ. While acknowledging the changes and challenges of different eras, he emphasized that steadfastness upon the Book and Sunnah remains the sole path to success and salvation in this world and the Hereafter.

He noted that throughout history, including in the Valley of Kashmir, Allah Almighty has sent His righteous servants—noble Awliya and pure Sufis—who worked tirelessly to connect people with the Qur’an and Sunnah. Because of their efforts, he said, people of faith have remained firmly attached to the true religion and the Shariah of Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ, a chain that will continue until the Day of Judgment.

Allama Hami strongly condemned what he described as baseless suspicions and rumors being spread on social media against the Awliya and Sufis. He said that an honest and thoughtful study of the lives, sayings, actions, and character of the righteous—including the revered Rishis and Sufis of Kashmir—clearly proves that these spiritual figures could not tolerate even the slightest opposition to the Qur’an and Sunnah.

“There is a pressing need to understand and view the teachings of these pure souls beyond sectarian lenses,” he said, adding that their entire spiritual legacy is rooted in strict adherence to Islamic principles.

Speaking on the issue of drug abuse, Allama Hami praised the administration’s ongoing anti-drug operations, calling them a welcome and necessary step for the welfare of society. He said that drug addiction and trafficking are signs of social, political, economic, and moral decline, and stressed the urgent need for the complete eradication of this menace.

He further advised the general public that in the present era, remaining connected with the Qur’an and Sunnah, along with maintaining spiritual ties with the shrines of the noble Awliya and Sufis, is an effective means to eliminate social evils and moral corruption.
