Serious Allegations of Misconduct, Political Patronage Rock SDH Sopore

Serious allegations of misconduct and political interference have surfaced at Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore, with residents openly accusing Dr. Liyaqat Ali of rude behavior with patients and misuse of influence to dominate hospital affairs.

Locals allege that Dr. Liyaqat Ali has repeatedly been accused of misbehaving with patients and attendants, creating an atmosphere of fear and dissatisfaction within the hospital premises. Despite complaints raised earlier, residents claim that no concrete action has been taken, raising questions about accountability within the Health Department.

The issue has further escalated after residents alleged that his wife, Dr. Farhat Ali, who is officially posted at Primary Health Centre (PHC) Tujar, has been regularly attending duties at SDH Sopore instead of her designated place of posting. Locals have strongly questioned how a doctor posted in another health institution is allowed to function at SDH Sopore.

Residents allege that her presence at SDH Sopore is being facilitated through the backing of her husband and his brother, Irfan Ali, described by locals as a self-claimed politician. They termed the situation as open political patronage in a sensitive public health institution.

*“This kind of interference and favoritism cannot be tolerated in a hospital meant to serve the common people,” said several residents, demanding immediate intervention.

People have also questioned how Dr. Liyaqat Ali has continued at SDH Sopore for the past six years without transfer, calling for transparency in the transfer policy and administrative functioning of the department.

Residents have urged higher authorities to order a thorough and time-bound inquiry into the matter and take strict action to restore transparency, fairness, and discipline within the institution.
