J&K Govt Appoints Law Officers for High Court in Srinagar, Jammu Wings

The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Saturday appointed several advocates as Law Officers in both the Srinagar and Jammu wings of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

According to separate orders, copies of which lies with Kashmir Age, Government Order No. 3957-JK (LD) and 3958-JK (LD) of 2026 issued by the Department of Law Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Jammu and Kashmir, the appointments have been made with immediate effect.

In the Srinagar wing, Shabaz Sikandar Mir has been appointed as Additional Advocate General, while Tarig Ahmad Lone and G.N. Sofi have been appointed as Deputy Advocate Generals.

For the Jammu wing, Meharban Singh Meenakshi Slathia has been appointed as Additional Advocate General. Anishwar Chatterji Koul has been appointed as Government Advocate, while another appointee has been designated as Deputy Advocate General.

The government said the appointments will be governed by existing rules and orders related to engagement of law officers and will initially be for a period of one year, extendable based on performance.

It added that the appointments are subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria as prescribed under relevant rules and compliance with directions issued in ongoing court proceedings.

The order further mandates that the appointed law officers submit regular updates on case status through the Directorate of Litigation and maintain periodic reporting to the department.

The appointments were made with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, the order stated.
