Altaf Bukhari Targets NC Over Governance Issues

Apni Party president Altaf Bukhari on Tuesday criticized the government led by Omar Abdullah, alleging that the administration is not functioning independently despite having secured a public mandate.

Speaking to reporters, Bukhari said the mandate was clearly in favor of Omar Abdullah, but the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference had required support from the Indian National Congress to form the government. He added that the situation has since changed, suggesting that such support may no longer be necessary.

Commenting on the ongoing political exchanges involving leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party and the Deputy Chief Minister, Bukhari described the developments as a “blame game” and said the statements reflected internal contradictions within the ruling arrangement.

“The government is running as of now; when it falls, we will see what happens,” he said.

Referring to political developments in West Bengal, Bukhari said electoral outcomes reflect democratic strength and that changes in government after long tenures are not unusual. He described the political process as a “see-saw,” adding that shifts in power have been witnessed over decades.

Bukhari also said there was visible public dissatisfaction following the formation of the National Conference-led government, adding that voters would ultimately assess its performance.
