Fresh snowfall blanketed the upper reaches of Tulail Valley in Bandipora, Drass and the Zojila axis on Thursday in what locals described as unusual weather for the second half of May, while moderate to heavy rainfall lashed several parts of Kashmir causing waterlogging, flooding and property damage.
In Bandipora, heavy rain triggered flooding near Darul Uloom Rahimiya along the Srinagar-Bandipora road, with water and mud entering residential areas and partially damaging two houses belonging to Nazir Ahmad Dar and Reyaz Ahmad Dar of Nusoo village. Two persons including a minor girl, Muskaan, sustained minor injuries. Residents alleged the flooding was caused by blocked drainage and a reduced-size drain under construction, claiming repeated requests to authorities had gone unaddressed.
Rainwater also accumulated in low-lying areas of Srinagar and other towns, briefly disrupting vehicular movement. The Meteorological Department has forecast intermittent rain, thundershowers, gusty winds, lightning and hailstorms across J&K till Saturday.
