BHADERWAH,AUG 28: The opposition National Conference (NC) today staged a protest in Bhaderwah against what it called “overt and covert attempts by the BJP” to repeal Article 35A of the Constitution, which gives special rights to the residents of Jammu and Kashmir.Led by its district senior vice president Dr Raiz Bhaderwahi , scores of NC workers and supporters assembled in old bus stand Bhaderwah and took out a procession which after passing through various markets and streets culminated at Takya Chowk and workers also raised slogans in support of Article 35A.“Impairing this provision will amount to weakening the strong bonds between the state and the country,” Dr Raiz Bhaderwahi said this is a matter of life and death for us and we will spill our blood to safeguard it and cautioned the BJP against “any misadventure” on the matter.Addressing the protesters, he said tinkering with this special provision would be fought “tooth and nail” by the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh divisions, as “such a move (abrogation of Article 35A) can jeopardise their economic interests and deprive the youth of their share in jobs among other things”.“The PDP seems to be conniving with the BJP by not emphasising on the Centre to put up a strong counter in the apex court to safeguard Article 35A,” claimed Ch Shabir Ahmed district secretary . Abdul Qyuoom Bhagwan block president Bhaderwah said the 90-year-old law, introduced by Maharaja Hari Singh to keep the identity of Jammu and Kashmir intact, gives its people exclusive right over land, jobs in government departments, scholarship to students, special aid and relief. Bal Krishan , Arif Sheikh , Amjad Mir , Gh Ali Shaksaz , Bashir Ahmed Najar , Jagdish Kumar Bhagat , Mohd Sharief , Gh Nabi Sheikh , Dharam Singh , Mohd Ayoub Beg and other were also present on the occasion
