3 persons held with endangered medicinal herb in north Kashmir, say police

Three persons have been arrested with 50 kilograms of endangered medicinal herb in Qalamabad area of Handwara in north Kashmir, police said today.

According to a statement, issued to Kashmir News Service (KNS), on Sunday a police party of Police Station Qalamabad while on Naka checking duty at Lach area of Qalamabad stopped a vehicle and upon search of the vehicle endangered medicinal herb locally known as Tripatri was recovered.

The arrested persons have been identified as Shafiq Ahmad Khan S/o Ali Mohammad, Reyaz Ahmad Khan S/o Aziz Rehman Khan—both residents of Mankal and Jameel Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Mohammad of Check Sanzipora.

The statement reads that the medicinal herb known as Trillium Govanianum was weighing around 50 kg.

It added that a case FIR No. 39/2022 U/s 26 Forest Act, 379-IPC was registered in PS Qalamabad and investigation has been initiated. (KNS)
