SMHS Hospital welcomes 10,000 visitors daily

The SMHS Hospital, one of the largest healthcare facilities in Kashmir, welcomes approximately 10,000 visitors daily, including patients, attendants, and other visitors.

Within this bustling environment, the Casualty/Emergency Department serves around 3,200 patients each day, providing critical consultation, treatment, testing, and patient care services.

The hospital boasts 890 beds across various wards, offering inpatient services to ensure comprehensive healthcare delivery. On average, the medical staff performs 30 major and 60 minor procedures daily, underscoring the hospital's vital role in the community.

During the 2023-24 period, the outpatient department treated over 1,063,028 patients, while the inpatient department catered to 107,589 individuals. Additionally, the hospital conducted 10,726 major surgeries and 12,543 minor surgeries, reflecting its commitment to addressing the healthcare needs of the population.

To support the high demand for diagnostic services, the hospital conducts 6,000 lab tests daily, with laboratory services available 24/7. Imaging services include an average of 30 MRIs, 450 ultrasounds, 125 CT scans, and 400 X-rays each day, ensuring timely and accurate diagnoses.

Despite the overwhelming foot traffic, SMHS Hospital prioritizes sanitation and hygiene. A dedicated team of 35 sanitation workers conducts a three-shift sanitation drive throughout the day to maintain cleanliness across the facility, which spans an area of 62,000 square feet. Major sanitation areas, including the casualty and certain wards, have been outsourced for enhanced maintenance.

Hospital authorities emphasize that maintaining cleanliness is a shared responsibility. They appeal to patients and visitors to cooperate in keeping the premises tidy. “We urge everyone to help us maintain the hospital’s cleanliness and hygiene,” a hospital spokesperson stated. “Please do not litter and refrain from bringing polythene bags into the hospital.”

SMHS Hospital and its associated facilities are committed to providing quality healthcare services with a strong focus on sanitation and hygiene. They invite the community to join hands in creating a clean and healthy environment for all.
