Political Leaders in J&K Switch Sides as Assembly Elections Approach

With Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir on the horizon, the region's political scene is experiencing notable shifts. Several political figures, many of whom have been inactive since the abrogation of Article 370, are now changing allegiances and joining new parties.

In a recent development, Zaffar Iqbal Manhas, a founding member of the Jammu Kashmir Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari, has resigned from the party. Manhas, along with his son, is expected to join the Indian National Congress. Sources indicate that Manhas’s departure follows a fallout with Apni Party leadership after his poor performance in the recent Parliament elections.

Additionally, Abdul Haq Khan, a once-prominent leader who had distanced himself from the People's Democratic Party (PDP), has rejoined the party. Khan's return to the PDP marks a significant shift after a period of political dormancy.

Political sources suggest that more leaders may switch parties in the coming days as various political factions vie for power ahead of the Assembly elections. Each party is keen to attract and integrate these returning leaders, hoping to enhance their electoral prospects.

The shifting allegiances are likely to continue as the election period approaches, reflecting the fluid and dynamic nature of the region's political landscape.
