Kitchama Residents disappointed by Incomplete Rs 3.25 Crore Water Project, Face Persistent Water Shortages

Residents of Kitchama, Baramulla, including areas like Sheikh Mohalla and Ward 09, are struggling with severe water shortages despite the initiation of a Rs 3.25 crore water supply project in 2023.

The project, which was intended to resolve long-standing water issues in the area, remains unfinished, with the contractor failing to complete the ramp and using old, rusted pipes instead of new ones in certain areas.

Local residents expressed disappointment over the lack of progress. "This costly project was supposed to solve our water problems, but the incomplete work and substandard materials have only made things worse," said a group of residents from Sheikh Mohalla.

In response, the Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE) of the Jal Shakti Department assured the community that the department is taking steps to complete the remaining work. "Any incomplete work or missing pipes will be addressed promptly to ensure a smooth water supply for the residents," the AEE said.

The residents have appealed to the administration to intervene immediately, urging the timely completion of the project so that they no longer have to endure these water shortages.
