Opposition Moves No-Confidence Motion Against J&K Speaker Over Waqf Bill Row

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peoples Conference (PC) have tabled a no-confidence motion against Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather, accusing him of stifling debate on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill-2025, a decision they claim has sparked widespread outrage.

As reported by the Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the motion, filed by PC president Sajad Gani Lone and PDP MLAs Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, Mir Muhammad Fayaz, and Rafiq Ahmed Naik, seeks Rather’s removal for rejecting an adjournment motion and a resolution on the contentious bill.

“This conduct undermines democratic principles,” the petition states, pointing to the Speaker’s actions as a threat to the House’s integrity. With the National Conference (NC) also protesting Rather’s refusal to discuss the bill, all eyes are on their stance as the opposition’s move tests the ruling party’s unity in this escalating political showdown.
