Kashmir’s Newspapers Black Out Front Pages in Protest of Pahalgam Terror Strike
In an unprecedented show of solidarity and grief, Kashmir’s leading newspapers publish black front pages, mourning the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 and wounded dozens, mostly tourists.
Several leading newspapers in Kashmir turned their front pages black on Wednesday, in a somber and striking protest against the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 people, most of them tourists and left dozens wounded.
In a rare and deeply emotional gesture, the symbolic black front pages, punctuated only by stark white or red headlines, conveyed a collective sense of mourning and outrage. This silent yet powerful statement by the region’s media echoed the heartbreak felt across Kashmir, a place all too familiar with the shadow of violence, now grieving yet another tragedy.
“Carnage in Pahalgam, condemnations galore,” read the chilling headline in Kashmir Age, printed in white against a black backdrop, with a subhead that added grim detail: “2 locals, tourists among 28 killed, 20 injured in firing by terrorists.”
Prominent English and Urdu dailies—Tameel Irshad, Kashmir Age, Greater Kashmir, Rising Kashmir, Kashmir Uzma, Aftab, and others—joined the protest, their front pages transformed into visual eulogies for the victims. The blackout served not just as a protest, but as a plea: for peace, for dignity, and for an end to the senseless loss that continues to haunt the Valley.
