Pahalgam Attack: JKCSF Calls for Unity Against Communal Narratives
The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF) has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, which claimed innocent lives, and expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy. The group has accused certain media outlets and individuals of exploiting the incident to spread communal hatred, putting Kashmiris across India at risk.
Kashmiris United Against Terrorism
Kashmiris from all walks of life—civil society groups, religious leaders, students, and traders—have collectively denounced the attack, emphasizing that terrorism has no place in their society. Despite this unified stance, JKCSF highlighted that some media houses and provocateurs are misrepresenting the tragedy to fuel divisive narratives, endangering Kashmiri communities outside Jammu and Kashmir.
JKCSF’s Demands
The JKCSF has outlined urgent measures to address the situation:
Government Intervention: The Central and State Governments must take legal action against media outlets, journalists, and social media accounts spreading misinformation and hate. The Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister are urged to ensure the safety of Kashmiris nationwide.
National Solidarity: The forum appeals to all Indians to reject divisive propaganda and stand with Kashmiris in their fight against terrorism.
Responsible Media Use: Citizens are encouraged to share verified, unbiased news and counter hate by highlighting stories of Kashmiri resilience and India’s shared values.
A Call for Unity
“The Pahalgam attack targeted our peace and unity,” said JKCSF spokesperson A.Q. Wani. “Those spreading communal hatred are furthering the terrorists’ agenda. We urge the nation to stand with Kashmiris and reject these dangerous narratives.”
The JKCSF has called on political leaders, journalists, and citizens to uphold India’s pluralistic ethos and isolate forces seeking to divide the nation. The group emphasized the need for collective action to promote peace and protect Kashmiris from being unfairly vilified.
