JKCSF Condemns Resource Exploitation in Tangmarg, Warns of Public Outcry

The Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society Forum (JKCSF), led by Chairman Kh. Abdul Qayoom Wani, has expressed grave concern over the ongoing exploitation of natural resources in the Tangmarg region, particularly the diversion of water from the Nallah Ferozpora. The organization accuses the government of neglecting the area's civic and ecological needs, leading to severe hardships for the local population.

According to Wani, the diversion of water from Nallah Ferozpora to distant areas has left Tangmarg on the brink of a water crisis. "Stop the loot of natural resources in J&K, particularly in Tangmarg, or face the public's wrath," Wani warned. He highlighted that nearly 60% of villages in the Sub-Division Gulmarg experienced acute water shortages during the December 2024 crisis, signaling mismanagement and administrative neglect.

Despite the region's dependence on Nallah Ferozpora for drinking water, irrigation, and fish farming, over 90% of the local population is still forced to consume untreated water from nallahs and streams. This has resulted in a surge of water-borne diseases and public health concerns. Basic civic facilities such as roads, health centers, and schools remain underdeveloped or poorly maintained, while employment opportunities are scarce, leaving educated youth in despair.

In collaboration with the J&K Pensioners United Front, JKCSF has called for immediate action to address these issues. The organization demands a transparent investigation into who authorized the diversion of Nallah Ferozpora's water, why local ecological and irrigation concerns have been ignored, and why the population continues to drink unsafe water.

Wani emphasized that if the authorities fail to act promptly, public demonstrations and mass mobilization cannot be ruled out. He urged the government to halt the diversion of native water resources, restore drinking and irrigation facilities, and provide urgent medical responses to the prevalent water-borne diseases.

"The people of Tangmarg deserve justice, not neglect," Wani concluded.
