Acting on the directions of the Commissioner, State Taxes Department, Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (JKUT), all circle offices across the Kashmir division, along with enforcement wings in North, South, and Central Kashmir, conducted a comprehensive market surveillance and public awareness campaign to ensure effective on-ground implementation of the recently introduced next-generation GST Reforms 2.0.
As part of the initiative, teams from the department carried out inspections at various business establishments to assess compliance with the new GST structure. Simultaneously, awareness sessions were held to educate consumers about the benefits of the reformed tax system.
"The Government has commenced the implementation of next-generation GST Reforms 2.0, effective from September 22, aligning with the national tax rationalisation drive and reinforcing its commitment to consumer welfare," an official spokesperson stated.
Under GST 2.0, a two-tier tax structure has been adopted, with rates of 5% and 18%, replacing the earlier four-tier system of 5%, 12%, 18%, and 28%. This move is expected to bring down prices on nearly 99% of daily-use items, easing the burden on consumers.
The State Taxes Department reaffirmed its dedication to ensuring transparent and smooth implementation of the reforms and urged businesses to comply fully while encouraging the public to stay informed about their rights and the benefits of the new GST structure.
