Three-Day Advanced Mediation Training Programme Inaugurated at Jammu and Srinagar

Under the patronage of Chief Justice Arun Palli, the Mediation and Conciliation Committee of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh on Monday inaugurated a three-day “Conduct of Mediation – Advanced Course (Capsule Course), Training of Trainers Programme” at the Jammu and Srinagar campuses of the J&K Judicial Academy.

The programme is being organised in collaboration with the J&K Judicial Academy and the J&K Legal Services Authority and will continue from December 29 to 31, 2025. It is a 20-hour advanced mediation training course aimed at enhancing the professional skills of mediators across the Union Territory.

At the Jammu campus, the inaugural session began with a welcome address by Naseer Ahmad Dar, Director, J&K Judicial Academy, who highlighted the growing importance of mediation in strengthening the justice delivery system. He said advanced, practice-oriented training is essential to equip mediators with effective conflict resolution skills.

At the Srinagar campus, the programme opened with a welcome address by Tabasum Qadir Parray, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Srinagar, who emphasised the role of mediation in improving dispute resolution mechanisms. She encouraged participants to actively engage with the course content and practical exercises. The session was also attended by Mir Sayeem Qayoom, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Anantnag.

Ms Rita Das Mouzumdar, Advocate, Gauhati High Court and an accredited mediation trainer with the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee of the Supreme Court of India, is serving as the resource person for the programme.

On the first day, sessions focused on advanced mediation concepts, including understanding conflict and conflict resolution, core principles of mediation, and the conduct of mediation proceedings. The sessions featured lectures, role-play exercises, group discussions and interactive activities, offering participants a comprehensive understanding of the mediation process from initiation to closure.

The three-day programme aims to strengthen mediation capacity, enhance practical skills and promote alternative dispute resolution mechanisms across Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Participants at both centres appreciated the hands-on, simulation-based approach, noting that the role-play exercises provided valuable practical insights into effective mediation practices.
